From the layers of lipstick you put on each day to harsh environmental conditions, your lips – which are 100 times more sensitive than one’s fingertips – go through a lot, and could do with some pampering every once in a while.

Periodically exfoliating your lips can do wonders for your pout. This includes avoiding cracks, alleviating dryness, reversing discolouration and aiding in achieving the best lipstick application or natural lip glow.

Here’s how to exfoliate with a hassle-free scrub consisting of three simple ingredients; sugar, honey and your choice of essential oil such as peppermint, chamomile or lavender:

What you’ll need:

  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons raw honey
  • 1 drop of essential oil

How to apply:

Mix your ingredients in a small bowl, apply and gently message onto clean, dry lips to remove dead skin. Let the exfoliator sit for about 10 minutes to reap the antibacterial and lightening benefits of honey, and for the essential oil to moisture your lips. Rinse off the exfoliant with warm water or remove with a damp cloth. Apply a colour-free lip balm to seal in the moisture and voila!

How often:

In warmer seasons, you can add this to your facecare routine once a week, and no more than twice a week in colder, dryer months.
