As the country reels from the shocking news of Khanye’s sudden passing, the Tsambo family has called for privacy as they mourn.

Family spokesperson, Nkululeko Ncana, yesterday confirmed the news, saying Khanye had died in a Johannesburg hospital following a long battle with illness. The exact cause of death is not known at this stage.

Khanye is survived by her 13-year-old Leano, whom she had with the late Motswako rapper. The pair dated for years before HHP married customary wife Lerato Sengadi.

Earlier this month, Khanye spoke out after her son’s friends, HHP’s helper and her son were evicted from the rapper’s Randpark Ridge home – after Sengadi changed the locks on the doors and claimed the home the day after the funeral. Leano wasn’t there at the time of the incident, although he had been staying at his dad’s house.

“I got a call from the traumatised kids who told me that someone was breaking into the house. When [the robbers] were chased out, the four were taken in by a caring neighbour. She kept them there until we picked them up,” Khanye said in an interview with SowetanLive earlier this month.

“Leano was not there because he had slept at my parents’ place. He was shattered and could not sleep thinking about his friends,” she said, adding that her son had been adversely affected by the ongoing drama between Sengadi and the Tsambo family.

Khanye says that when Leano’s friends returned to the Randpark Ridge home to fetch their belongings, they were under constant supervision and, in some instances, Sengadi allegedly had to approve some of the items before they could taken.

Sengadi took the Tsambo family to court in a bid to have the Motswako rapper’s funeral halted. While that bid failed, the court found that she had indeed entered into a customary marriage with HHP and, as such, was his wife.

Twitter reacted with shock to the news on Monday, with many expressing deep sadness at the tragedy of losing both parents within a month of each other.
