Fitness inspiration: Sbahle Mpisane

Fitness fanatic Sbahle Mpisane shares how she stays disciplined and maintains her healthy body

Also known as FitnessBunnie, Mpisane’s a wellness and fitness motivator who aims to set an example for other women on how to adopt a healthier lifestyle. She uses Instagram to share her workouts, motivational quotes and meal plans as well as tips and tricks to get healthy and fit.

The 23-year-old discourages short-term weight-loss plans, saying women should rather adopt a healthy lifestyle and practise self love. She believes that taking care of yourself shows your dedication, discipline, self respect, dignity, work ethic and passion.

We chatted to Mpisane to get some fitness advice:

When and how did your fitness journey start?

It began in high school. I was overweight and by participating in sports I fell in love with taking care of my body. FitnessBunnie started about two years ago when I decided to restructure my life because I wasn’t happy with the person I was becoming. The discipline that came with my new lifestyle has been life-changing.

How do you maintain your body?

By being mindful of what I eat. That’s the key to achieving a healthy body before you even begin to work out.

What eating plans do you swear by?

I like to keep my meals simple, and so I prepare my daily meals. My meal preps consist of two lunchboxes of proteins and veggies. If my exercise routine will be focusing on legs, I’ll add a small portion of carbs. Healthy food doesn’t have to be boring as long as it’s prepared well.

How do you stay disciplined?

I always have a weekly schedule of my grocery shopping which is tailor-made, depending on what muscle groups I’ll be focusing on that week. Also, the company I keep is very supportive so I’m hardly ever tempted to eat badly.

What tips would you give women who want to maintain or develop a healthy body but lack discipline?

If you’re serious about adopting a healthier lifestyle, utilise Google. It’s helpful to do as much research as possible about something before you jump into it so you won’t find yourself repeating the same mistakes as everyone else who has failed. That way you’re mentally and emotionally prepared, which boosts the likelihood of success.

What common mistakes do women make when trying to improve their bodies? 

The most common mistake women make, including me when I started, is to only do cardio and avoid lifting weights. Always remember that you can only sculpt your body through weight training.
